Day Three
Day Three was a busy day! Firstly we welcomed Julie Brown (Region) and Karen McFarlane (County Growing Guiding coordinator) our VIPs for the day. Another wake and shake to start and we were delighted to see our VIPs joining in! Thank you, thank you, thank you to them both for getting involved in all aspects of the day.
Today's activities included learning about the Countryside Code, a scavenger hunt, lending a hand on site, wellie pegs, pre-promise prep, grass-sledging and "tea in an unusual place"!
Day three ended with the Promise Ceremony. Last years Holiday Brownies led the girls up in pairs to make their promise. The girls also sang some of the songs they'd learnt and we heard about some of the activities they'd taken part in over the three days.
And of course, no Holiday Brownies programme would be complete with a campfire and smores - the perfect end to a fabulous 3 days with a great bunch of new Brownies :)

Day Two
Day two got off to a brilliant start with a wake and shake!
Followed by learning about the Brownie Promise and Law, including starting to learn the sign language promise. Next up was Low Ropes, photography and decorating photo frames...
After lunch we wrote cards to Solange, Chief Commissioner for Girlguiding South West England, played a "Brownies from around the world" Beetle Drive and acted out what we want to be when we're older.
Big Brownie Birthday Challenge - 6 activities down, just 3 more to go before the girls have earned their first Brownie Badge!!

Day One
What a day! This morning we welcomed 14 eager girls to Cowley for the first day of Holiday Brownies 2014. The girls started their 'Becoming a Brownie' books, read the Brownie story, discussed what makes a good team, took part in team-building activities, learnt to French knit and built a Bug Hotel! (amongst other fun activities!). We also started our Big Brownie Birthday Challenge badge.
A very fun day had by all and we're looking forward to tomorrow, lots more exciting things in store. Until then we'll leave you with some photos of our adventures so far...

The Sun'll Come Out Tomorrow?
Here's hoping! It's Tuesday today which means that tomorrow we'll be meeting our newest Holiday Brownies! Last year we had beautiful weather for the first two days which meant we could spend more time outside in the fresh air. Current weather forecast doesn't look too promising but we'll keep our fingers crossed for some sunshine.
Last minute preparations are underway and we're looking forward to 3 fun-filled days of activities. Some of our leaders have decided to stay over each night to make sure they are bright-eyed and bushy-tailed in the morning. Failing that we have lots of tea and biscuits to help us through each day!
It sometimes feels like there's a never-ending list of paperwork and planning for these events but it always feels worthwhile when you turn up and meet the girls, watch them try activities that they've never done before, meet new people and most importantly have fun. That's when you know that all that time and energy has been worthwhile. We're sure tomorrow will be no different!
Wish us luck and good weather and don't forget to follow us on Twitter too! https://twitter.com/HolidayBrownies

Last minute preparations
Now I'm back from my long holiday I'm catching up on everything the leadership team have been doing. I've been sent my to do list and I've started - honestly
Receipts to write for the cheques, forms to file and all the GO! admin to do.
Aside from that, I've dug the equipment boxes out of the shed to check everything in them is fine...... Unfortunately we had a few small furry visitors to them over the winter who have eaten through the lids and sneaked inside..
Not too much damage by the looks of things though some cleaning up to do. They seemed to like the sunflower aprons rather a lot so they are all in the wash, and I may need to do some running repairs as they have nibbled through quite a few of the ties. They also ate a hole in one leader polo shirt, though all the other T-shirts look OK.

To do list now 2 items shorter and one longer (iron aprons)

Holiday Brownies Update!
Hello all! Apologies for not blogging since last October, we've been so caught up with spreading Holiday Guiding to other counties and so forth. Here's a little flavour of our activity since the last post...
Christmas
At Christmas we met up with some of the Holiday Brownies for a day of activities. The girls learnt all about the new promise and worked towards their Number Fun and Disability Awareness badges.
Half-term
During half-term the girls were also invited to an activities day at Cowley to give feedback about the Holiday Brownies programme and take part in a range of outdoor activities including Tunnelling, Low Ropes, Mountain Biking and Bush Craft.
Where are we now?
All of the Brownies from last year's programme are now happily in Brownie Units and having a brilliant time. So lovely to see them at different Guiding events and find out how they're getting on.
One thing we have said from the beginning is that being a Holiday Brownie will not change where the girls are on the waiting list BUT it will allow them to enjoy the benefits of being a Brownie and taking part in Guiding events either until they join a unit or if they wish to continue as a Holiday Brownie (similar to a Lone Guide). In the time between Holiday Brownies and joining a unit girls were given the opportunity to have 'personal Brown Owls' who would see how they were doing with badges and update them on any relevant information. We've been amazed and delighted at how many badges some of our Holiday Brownies have achieved!
Spreading the message
Since the success of Holiday Brownies last year we have visited other counties and regions to inform them of Holiday Brownies and help them to develop a similar scheme in their area. Hannah and Charlotte gave a presentation at County Planning Day and Emily and Charlotte represented the team at the region Growing Guiding Conference! Helen also took our ideas to Anglia Region to help inspire Holiday Guiding there too (they were even able to Facetime one of our Holiday Brownies to find out first-hand how brilliant it is to be a Holiday Brownie!). We are delighted to hear that Milton Keynes will also be running Holiday Brownies this year and other areas are also planning events in the near future.
2014
We are running two lots of Holiday Brownies in Gloucestershire this summer, the first of which is next week! We'll be working towards the Big Brownie Birthday Challenge Badge amongst other things. Our parents meeting went well and we can't wait to meet the newest Holiday Brownies and welcome them to Girlguiding.
Thanks for reading and we'll hopefully update you again soon! Until then, don't forget to follow us on Twitter! https://twitter.com/HolidayBrownies
